| AZA A
child of Soweto- born and bred in Pimville and known to her friends as
just Aza- Azania Mosaka once a shy girl with a low self-esteem, is now
a personality to be reckoned with. It
all started in 1996 when she auditioned for a youth talk show called `The
Joint` on CCV after a short stint doing tv commercials. She
then got the travelling itch and decided to spend the next 3 years roughing
it out in London. Her return to South Africa in 1999 saw a different Azania
who was a mother, was now Pan-Africanist in her thinking and approach
to life, hardened, focused and full of zest in personality. After
co hosting Bassiq- a street culture music programme, which brought out
her spunck even more, Aza found herself being fascinated with radio. Starting
off as an assistant producer for Metro fm’s Drive time show `The Ride`
and as a stand- in DJ she soon learnt the ropes and presented
the graveyard shift from midnight to 3am called the `Midnight Urban Oasis`
in May 2002. The
beginning of 2003 saw a change in slot as she was moved from graveyard
to prime time hosting the afternoon drive time show and going down in
the history books as the first female to host a drive time show on a commercial
radio station. As
a compere, Aza has featured at various Metro Lifestyle events including
the Fresh & Funky nights @ Monsoon Lagoon. The North Sea Jazz Festival
is another notch she has added to her belt and her presence at the recent
Sankofa launch was very well received by those present and is testimony
to her passion for African Film. She
brought you your Sunshine in the night time and she is about passion,
integrity, honesty, sometimes crazy (well most of the time) and a revolutionary
at heart. Shaped by motherhood, love and Africa, that’s Azania. |
